China is a major global economic, industrial, and technological power. We believe there is a genuine opportunity to move beyond a relationship largely centered on trade and imports toward a broader, production-oriented economic partnership, the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) told the Global Times in an exclusive written interview.
The remarks were made during the ongoing state visit of the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein to China from August 18 to 24.
This visit marks King Abdullah II's ninth visit to China since his accession to the throne, according to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Commenting on the visit, the JCC said that Jordan's private sector also attaches great importance to this visit. The chamber views the state visit as a strategic milestone in shaping the future of the Jordan-China partnership over the next decade. The visit provides an important opportunity to build on the longstanding relations between the two countries and the strategic partnership established in 2015, while advancing bilateral cooperation to a new level, particularly in the economic, investment, and technological fields, said the chamber.
Economic and trade relations between Jordan and China are strong and growing. In 2025, China became Jordan's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $6.7 billion, representing growth of more than 25 percent, according to the JCC.
Moreover, the contribution of Chinese investment to Jordan's economic development has also been notable. The cumulative value of Chinese direct investments implemented in Jordan between 2010 and 2025 exceeded $3.56 billion across 71 projects, according to the JCC, noting that "these investments have made an important contribution to the Jordanian economy and have helped create thousands of employment opportunities."
"Our message for the next phase is not simply that Jordan wants more Chinese investment; we also want greater diversification and more productive investment in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, mining, pharmaceuticals, technology and the digital economy, logistics, food industries, tourism, and other promising sectors," said the chamber.
For Jordan, China is not simply a large market or a major trading partner. We regard China as a strategic economic, investment, and technological partner that can play an important role in supporting Jordan's development priorities and its Economic Modernisation Vision, said the Jordanian chamber.
"We see significant potential for expanding cooperation between the Jordanian and Chinese business communities, particularly in sectors where China possesses advanced industrial and technological capabilities," the chamber said.
China possesses world-class technological, industrial, and investment capabilities, while Jordan offers strategic location, stability, skilled human capital, and access to regional and international markets. By bringing these comparative advantages together through practical partnerships, we can build a more advanced model of Jordan-China economic cooperation based on productive investment, joint manufacturing, increased exports, technology transfer, and mutual benefit, said the JCC.
"We want to move with China beyond imports and conventional trade toward production, investment, exports, and technology transfer, and to translate the momentum created by the visit into tangible projects, investments, and employment opportunities on the ground," the JCC said.
