The 2011 North America International Auto Show (NAIAS) kicked off on Monday at Cobo center in Detroit, the US auto city, with more than 40 global top-notch auto brands showcasing their latest products and technology.

More than 5,000 journalists worldwide would join the world's premier auto industry event, which was scheduled to run from Jan. 10 to Jan. 23.

It was forecast that more than 710,000 visitors would attend the two-week world auto industry gala this year.

"The vehicles grab global attention at NAIAS, but not just as outstanding examples of design and innovation. The amount of new product serves as the direction for the world's economic future," said Carlos Tavares, chairman of Nissan Americas.

"With an anticipated 30 to 40 worldwide debuts taking place at the show, there would be significant announcements made on both Monday and Tuesday that will have a large impact on the global automotive industry," noted Barron Meade, 2011 NAIAS chairman.
