A child who excitedly took a bite of his yogurt bought from Haagen-Dazs was upset to find the snack was far from the real thing.

The child's mother surnamed Jiang brought her family to West Lake, the famous tourist site in Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang Province on Sunday. Jiang's brother bought a cup of yogurt for her son.

The family then left the store and kept sightseeing.

Suddenly the child yelled, "Mom, I cannot scoop up the yogurt!"

Jiang checked it and found that the yogurt was a model made of silica gel. The cup was marked "not for sale," but the child had already eaten the nuts on top of the cup, Qianjiang Evening News reported on Monday.

The display model had been placed in a showcase where a variety of other desserts were also kept.

With many costumers in the store, a new store clerk who was unfamiliar with the store's routine absentmindedly gave the display model to Jiang's family, the store's manager was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

The nuts on top of the cup were real so the child is not in danger, said the manager.

Jiang was not at all happy with the store's explanation and was worried even if the nuts her son ate were indeed real, they might be far from fresh and could cause him harm.

She is asking for compensation from the store.

"Maybe Haagen-Dazs could offer the kid life-time free yogurt and ice cream," a Sina Weibo user posted.
