Residents in a district in East China's Zhejiang Province are no longer worried about being injured by the trash thrown from high-rise buildings after that 47 upward-looking surveillance cameras  were installed to monitor killer litterers.

Officials with the government in Hangzhou said the dangerous tossing of trash by thoughtless tenants prompted them to come up with the "intelligent security system," Hangzhou Daily reported Wednesday.

The cameras point upward on a 60- to 80-degree angle so they can monitor windows and balconies even on the top floors of the high-rise buildings. The angle also ensures the cameras can't peer into people's apartments, protecting their privacy.

The managers say the cameras have ended the threat to pedestrians' safety from trash tossers.

Not only are local residents happy to have the "safeguard" cameras, many netizens on Sina Weibo said they too want the cameras installed in their high-rise communities.
