On the sidelines of the 2019 Beijing Design Week, a forum focusing on urban development was held at Beijing's Red Brick Art Museum on Friday.

Experts and industry insiders from China and abroad were invited to exchange their ideas on urban planning, design and public art at the Urban Vivid forum.

Several guests and scholars gave lectures and speeches on topics such as "orbit place," "urban images" and "third place" to explore how these concepts can contribute to the development of a modern city.

For instance, Wang Yubei, chief editor of Underground Space magazine, pointed out that "the subway is an important component of the concept of 'third place.' It is not sufficient to only focus on function and safety in the design of subways nowadays. We also need to pay attention to giving these spaces an artistic touch."

Many other participants agreed with Wang, noting that designers and urban planners should work toward the goal of promoting art by ensuring subway rides are pleasant experiences for the public.
