US China

Some American politicians have wantonly demonized China and attempted to alienate the Community Party of China (CPC) from Chinese people, aiming at manipulating the public opinion of the US to satisfy their own selfish interests, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said following new US visa restrictions for CPC members and their families.

The more viciously they attack the CPC and oppress its members, the more they turn against the 1.4 billion Chinese people who make up one fifth of the world's population, Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at Friday's media briefing. They are trying to decouple from the CPC, which indicates that they are decoupling from China, from the world and the future, Hua said.

The US has tightened visa rules for CPC members and their families, limiting entry to the US to a single entry and for a period of one month.

"For decades we allowed the CPC free and unfettered access to US institutions and businesses while these same privileges were never extended freely to US citizens in China," a US Department of State spokesperson said.

In answering a question about whether Hua agreed with the remarks, Hua said "Do you think I could agree to that?"

She said that such remarks were ridiculous.

"When I read the remarks made by some extremely anti-China Americans, I always see a picture of Don Quixote brandishing his spear in front of my eyes, which I find very ridiculous, absurd and pathetic," Hua said.

Such behavior clearly runs counter to the trend of historical development and goes against the wishes of the Chinese and American people for friendly exchanges. Ultimately, it will only deeply hurt the interests of the US, Hua said.
