Beijing has an estimated 5.5 million foreign-language speaking residents, the Beijing Daily reported Sunday.

The number of residents who can speak a foreign language grew from 3 million in 2002 to 5.5 million this year, the Beijing Speaks Foreign Languages Program office director said.

Beijing has 701 foreign language training centers and 433 community foreign language corners, the report said.
