Beijing government will grant  a subsidy of 2,800 yuan ($440)to the city's 3,900 couples who lost their only child, covering their endowment, medical and accident insurances in the next three years, the Beijing Daily reported Thursday.

The subsidy will apply to residents with a Beijing hukou (household registration) who were born after 1933.
