A man who put sleeping pills in his parents' soup and then shot and stabbed them, is set to stand trial at Beijing No.1 Intermediate Court, the Beijing News reported Wednesday.

Zhang Jianguo, 52, lived with his parents who were sick for many years. He bought a knife and fashioned 14 homemade guns using firecracker gunpowder from October, 2010 to early 2011. After his parents ate the adulterated soup on February 7, 2011, Zhang shot dead the housemaid, surnamed Li, and then stabbed her 30 times. He then shot his parents, and stabbed them to death. Police detained Zhang two days later.
