Two members of a notorious kidnap-for-ransom group believed to be behind the abduction of an Irish priest were arrested in southern Philippines on Thursday, a military official said Friday.

The 1st Army Division arrested Montasser Mangoda Ratarta and Rachmodin Vel Andih who are members of a lost command group led by Amie Andih. The group operates in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

The two were arrested in the group's safehouse in Upper Bayao village, Tukuran town in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur. Government security forces tried to arrest Andih but he managed to escape.

Andih's group is said to be behind the abduction of Michael Sinnott in Pagadian City last October 2009. The Irish priest was released a month after he was abducted.
