The crowd cheers after the United Nations Yugoslav war crimes court announced the acquittal of Croatian former generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac of charges including war crimes during the breakup of Yugoslavia and ordered them set free. Around 10,000 war veterans and civilians gathered in Zagreb's main square on Friday to watch a live broadcast of the trial on a giant screen. For most Croats, Gotovina, who was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for war crimes and crimes against humanity charges in 2011, symbolizes the country's independence. Photo: AFP
