Fading Nostalgia exhibition @ Gallery Yang
In the first solo exhibition of Thai artist Tawan Wattuya since his relocation to China earlier this year, Wattuya's latest ink paintings touch on themes such as war and violence. Ink paintings, an art form more traditionally associated with illustrations of beautiful, natural scenery, get twisted as Wattuya depicts tanks, planes dropping bomb after bomb, and columns of marching male and female soldiers. They defy expectations and create an intriguing commentary through the juxtaposition. Wattuya found his inspiration for the ink painting collection Fading Nostalgia from several trips to see the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution and the Terracotta Warriors site near Xi'an in Shaanxi Province.

Don Ross concert @ Mako Livehouse
When you hear about fingerstyling and "heavy wood," maybe a guitar master isn't the first thing to come to mind. But Canadian Don Ross, the only guitarist to ever secure the U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship title not once but twice, is no joke. This is the first time Ross will make a tour stop in Beijing, presenting his "heavy wood" stylings. He's gained a decent following among guitar fanatics in China, and will preface his performance with a guitar master class.
