A total of 20.69 million people were resident in Beijing as of the end of 2012, an increase of 507,000 compared with 2011, the Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.

The data released from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics also showed there are 7.738 million migrant people in Beijing, an increase of 316,000 compared with the previous year's data.

An official from the bureau said Beijing's population has increased relatively slowly in 2012.
