Xicheng district prosecutors arrested three fake generals suspected of cheating people out of over 10 million yuan ($1.6 million), the Legal Mirror reported Tuesday.

In early 2012, a man surnamed Du told his friend, surnamed Li, that he was invited by three generals to set up a military bank, and if Li participated, he could be appointed as head of a branch bank.

From August to November, the three generals, wearing military uniforms, met Li once and asked him to hand over 13.5 million yuan as a deposit and fees to purchase office supplies.

Li could not get in touch with them after giving the money and then called the police. Du did not realize he was fooled by the three fake generals until the police found him.
