Participants to the 23rd round of the mediated Geneva Discussions between Russia and Georgia discussed the issue of non-use of force and agreed to continue to work on a draft statement on that at the next round, said a co-chair of the talks Wednesday.

Philippe Lefort, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and for the crisis in Georgia, told a press conference that the atmosphere of the session, held Tuesday and Wednesday, was "constructive."

The participants reiterated the need to resume the Gali Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), he said.

In the other working group, the participants exchanged views on issues related to missing persons and the possibility of organizing visits across the dividing lines for persons affected by the conflicts.

Participants also stressed the need for special provisions in case of medical emergencies, he said.

Davit Zalkaliani, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, said different positions that each side had before this new session remained unchanged.

However, "we are glad the work on the statement continues in the upcoming rounds," he said.

He reiterated that the statement can only be issued after the Russian side "makes unilateral, legally-binding declaration on non-use of force."

Georgia made the pledge in 2010 and recently reiterated it, which was supported by the newly-elected parliament of Georgia, according to Zalkaliani.

The Next round of the talks will be held on June 25th and 26th.
