Turkey has started constructing a separate refugee camp for Syrian Christians in the southeastern province of Mardin, local media reported Wednesday.

The Prime Ministry's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said the camp, capable of housing 10,000 people, will be established near Mor Abraham Syriac Monastery in Midyat district.

According to the AFAD, the camp will not only host Syrian refugees, but to all Christians who take shelter in Turkey.

Syrian Christians had complained to the Turkish foreign ministry for having to live in the same camps with Muslims and asked Turkish government to establish a separate camp for them.

About 180,000 people fleeing the two-year-old unrest in Syria are currently taking shelter in Turkey, according to the official figure.
