The 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurred around 8 am Saturday in Lushan county in Ya'an, Sichuan Province. The epicenter was 85 kilometers away from the epicenter in the 2008 earthquake in Wenchuan county, which killed 87,000 people.

Social organizations also lent support to the relief effort.

The Shanghai Charity Foundation had raised 6 million yuan by noon Sunday, said Li Chen, an employee for the foundation.

Companies from home and abroad also made contributions. China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Juneyao Airlines have set aside airplanes to transport supplies to the area.

The disaster area is not a popular tourist destination and no tourists from Shanghai have been reported injured, the Shanghai Tourism Bureau said Sunday.

A total of 352 tourists have recently traveled from Shanghai to Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Province, said Zhang Wu'an, press officer with Shanghai Spring International Travel Service, which organized the trips.
