Global Times: Wake up and look at the outside world

Xinhua: Xi's Chinese-style suit demonstrates cultural confidence
According to Zhang Yiwu, a Peking University literature professor and cultural critic, the continuity of Chinese culture is embodied in its clothing. As a head of state, Xi's choice to wear traditionally-styled clothing demonstrates the consistency in which China passes down its culture and shares it with the world. The way in which a culture, with thousands of years of history, can find value and manifest itself in the clothing of state leaders is very symbolic.

Through this gesture, the head of State and his wife have shown the world that China is no longer isolated, while at the same time demonstrates its cultural identity and inheritance. They have shown how China remains distinct as it opens up to the world. Each culture has its own history and characteristics, which play an important part in shaping a nation. These values are reflected in the clothes of our State head.
