Banning Russian television channels and its programs in the Baltic region is not an effective way in the current Internet age, the Estonian Internal Security Service has stated.
The agency's spokesperson Harrys Puusepp made this remark in an interview on Sunday with Estonian evening daily which was published on Monday, saying that raising consciousness and the ability to adequately assess events are more effective tools against Russian propaganda.
When asked about the feeling amongst the Estonian Russian-speaking population, the spokesman said that the situation is calm.
Still, he continued, the views on what happened in Ukraine differ considerably and those who base their opinions on Russian propaganda need more time to analyze their information and compare it to what is reported by the free press.
Earlier Lithuania, one of the three Baltic countries had made a decision to shut down Russian TV channels for three month, the Estonian media reported.
