Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signaled to Russia's potash producer Uralkali on Friday that he was interested in ending a nine-month dispute, which has roiled world potash market.

A potash alliance between Belaruskali and Uralkali fell apart in July 2013, dragging down potash prices and hurting the economy of Belarus, where potash exports are a key foreign currency earner.

During a meeting here with Uralkali's Vice Chairman Dmitry Mazepin, Lukashenko invited the Russian company to discuss what should be done in the interests of companies and the two countries.

"To some extent, it is a special historic meeting after what happened in our relationship with the former shareholders of your company," Lukashenko said.

"The main thing is for you and us to come out of this confusion, or after it, with the least amount of losses possible, and secondly, to be able to receive certain dividends instead of constant losses," the president said, stressing that nobody gained from what was happening in the potash market.

Mazepin said that renewed cooperation between Uralkali and Belaruskali could benefit both firms and the global market.
