A preadolescent boy from Luohe, Henan Province had his penis successfully reattached at a Beijing hospital after it was cut off one week ago by his uncle's girlfriend, the Beijing News reported.

The surgery performed at Peking University First Hospital on Sunday was the second attempt at reattaching the boy's penis, after a first attempt at a hospital in Zhengzhou, Henan's capital, failed. The doctor said that the boy would not be impaired with regard to the reproductive functions of the organ, but he would have to undergo further surgery and rehabilitation as he went through puberty. Chen, the girlfriend of the boy's uncle, had castrated the boy at his house on November 7 while his mother was working in the fields. She has undergone a psychiatric evaluation as part of a police investigation.
