European Council President Donald Tusk on Sunday opened a modern orphanage in Odporyszow, near Tarnow in southern Poland.

"Children deserve the best standards," said Tusk, who is also a former Polish prime minister.

"This is not the first high-standard-orphanage in Poland, and the children deserve this best standard. In my view, this orphanage is special not only because the children can enjoy here the best accommodation, but also because they can enjoy the warmest feelings and hearts," said Tusk.

The orphanage is composed of three adjacent buildings. The first is a sport center. The second is an orphanage providing 24-hour-care for 14 children, mostly from the neighboring municipalities. The third is the day-care centre, which is used by roughly 100 children daily.

The local government of Odporyszow also plans to open modern carpenter's workshop, football pitch, and renovate the Horse Riding Center.

Odporyszow is located in southern Poland, around 20 km from Tarnow and 100 km from Krakow. The town was established in 14th century, since 16th it has had its current name. The town is a home to 1,000 citizens.
