PM2.5 to be reduced by 5 percent in 2015

Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun said in a report on December 24 that he expects the average level of PM2.5 pollution in Beijing will be reduced by 5 percent next year, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

City officials hope to reduce the PM2.5 level by 25 percent by 2017, according to a five-year action plan (2013-2017) aimed at improving the city's air quality.

Trees have been planted in more than 58,400 acres of land this year, and an accumulative 156,499 acres of land have been planted with trees in the past three years, according to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Forestry. The city is also increasing the amount of waste and sewage that is processed each day.
