The Slovak police on Thursday evening at the Vysne Nemecke border crossing between Slovakia and Ukraine apprehended a 32-year-old man of Chechen origin suspected of terrorism in Russia, confirmed Slovakia's Police Corps President Tibor Gaspar on Friday.

The detained man, identified only as Hamzat Sh., was travelling from Slovakia to Ukraine.

When checking the man's documents and comparing them with the Interpol database, the police found out that Hamzat was wanted in Russia on suspicion of committing terrorist acts.

An international arrest warrant for the man was issued in 2007.

"Based on the findings, the police arrested the man and began to communicate with the Russian Federation," expressed Gaspar, adding that Slovakia also asked the Russian police for all due materials associated with the man's prosecution.

The Slovak police at the same time contacted their Swedish counterparts because the man was in possession of a Swedish passport. The document is being subjected to expert analysis for its authenticity at the moment, added Gaspar.
