At least seven Irish people have yet to make contact with their families following Saturday's earthquake in Nepal, state broadcaster RTE reported Monday quoting the Irish Red Cross.

Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs said some 100 Irish people were in the affected region at the time of the earthquake, adding that contact had been established with many of them.

However, communication lines have been affected so the process of contacting people may take some time, it said.

RTE also quoted Ireland's Minister of State Sean Sherlock as saying that most Irish citizens in Nepal have been accounted for.

The Irish government has approved a 1-million-euro ($1.09 million) fund which will allow for a rapid response core team to be deployed and for emergency stocks to be released, according to Sherlock.

So far, 3,750 people had been killed in the powerful earthquake, Nepalese authorities said Monday.
