US Vice President Joe Biden said that the West would impose more sanctions on Russia if the latter does not fully implement the Minsk agreements, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday.

The United States and its G-7 allies stand ready to impose significant additional sanctions if necessary to respond to Russia's actions, Biden said during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in the White House.

Biden stressed the resolve of the United States and its G-7 partners to continue pressing Russia to fully implement Minsk agreements, including return of the Ukrainian side of the international border to Ukrainian control, as well as the withdrawal of all Russian soldiers and weapons from Ukraine, the statement said.

Biden also discussed Ukraine's reform agenda with Yatsenyuk.

The US and its European partners have imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia over Moscow's absorption of Crimea and alleged support for separatists in eastern Ukraine.

Moscow denied involvement in the conflict in Ukraine's east, including the alleged provision of weaponry and military personnel to the insurgents.

According to UN estimates, more than 6,000 people, both military and civilians, have been killed and another 16,146 wounded since the outbreak of the fighting in April 2014.
