The Ukrainian parliament will form a commission to probe into a fatal shooting incident on Saturday in Mukachevo town of the western Transcarpathia region, Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Groysman said here on Monday.

"The parliament will set up a temporary investigative commission, aimed at exposing the real cause of what had happened, " Groysman told fellow lawmakers.

He added that "abuses of power and corruption" could be behind the shooting, which occurred in the crowded downtown Mukachevo, leaving three people dead and 14 others wounded.

According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, the shooting erupted when a group of activists from the ultra-right nationalistic group Right Sector attacked a gym owned by Ukrainian lawmaker Mykhailo Lanyo, using firearms and grenade launchers. The lawmaker's bodyguards returned fire.

However, the Right Sector activists claimed that they were just seeking a meeting with Lanyo while the latter's bodyguards fired first.

After the shooting, the armed activists reportedly fled the scene and hid into the woods on the outskirts of Mukachevo.

A major tourist destination in west Ukraine, Mukachevo is located near the border with Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland.
