Syria's Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi said Tuesday that the recently waged military offensive by the Syrian and Russian army against the jihadi groups has no specific timeframe or place, an indication that the war on the terror group could drag on indefinitely.

The minister made the remarks in an interview with the Lebanese-based al-Mayadeen TV.

He said the Russian involvement in Syria gave a clear message that "it's impermissible to bring down the Syrian state or dividing the country or even interfering in its internal affairs."

Al-Zoubi renewed the Syrian government's line that countering terrorism comes before any political settlement in Syria.

A couple of weeks have passed since the Russian warplanes started striking the jihadi groups positions in Syria, and Syrian government and army officials hailed the strikes as efficient and fruitful.

After almost a week of the Russian airstrikes in Syria, the Syrian ground forces last Wednesday unleashed a broad offensive on several frontlines, namely in the countryside of the central province of Hama, the northwestern province of Idlib and the coastal city of Latakia.

The offensive aims to secure the vital areas between the capital Damascus and the Syrian coast and the northern province of Aleppo.
