The French presidential office clarified early Saturday that the country restores border controls rather than closing borders in the wake of multiple terror attacks in Paris.

"The President of the Republic (Francois Hollande) decided the immediate restoration of border controls," the Elysee said in a press release issued after an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Hollande declared Friday night a state of emergency across the country and said "the borders were to be closed" in a brief statement on television following the attacks.

The Elysee said the state of emergency takes effect "immediately across the metropolitan territory and in Corsica" so as to "forbid the movement of people and establish zones of protection and security."

According to the French Foreign Ministry, airports and train stations will remain open, and the service and security will be assured.

At least 120 people were killed during the shootings and explosions in Paris and its suburbs, Prosecutor of Paris Francois Molins said early Saturday.

According to the prosecutor, at least five suspected terrorists were "neutralized" following explosions near the national stadium Stade de France and shootings in the theater Bataclan in the 11th district of Paris.
