Dutch police have suspended a police officer who tried to sell online souvenirs said to have come from the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which was shot down over war-torn Ukraine last year while flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

An investigation has been launched, and the man has been arrested for embezzlement, police said in a statement late Sunday. He had tried to sell "a piece of the clothing he used at the crash site" where teams were investigating the disaster, the statement added.
