Mila has had Yang's hair cut for 20 years (China Pictorial)
Mila taught for 15 years until she was diagnosed with heart disease. Over the years she had several thousand students, and two of them served as interpreters in the UN. Mila said delightfully, “My students still come to see me if they have time.”
As she suffered from heart disease, rheumatoid and diabetes, Mila is housebound. Without a pension or medical insurance, she just relies on Yang’s pension for their living expenses. Although they lead a comparatively poor life, they are quite happy to be with each other. There are always some people who ask Mila whether she regretted living in China instead of having a comfortable life back in Netherlands. She replied, “Baolu is full of my life.”
Two years ago, Yang wrote an autobiography and printed 20 copies. His autobiography is not only about the rich life of the whole family, but also offers guidelines to young people to live a full life.
