Chery claims innocence in GM tech theft

Chery said it's innocent in the technology theft of General Motors(GM), according to Jin Yibo, the general manager assistant of the Chinese automaker.
"Chery has nothing to do with the technology theft of General Motors (GM)", said Jin.
Public opinion pointed that Chery was the buyer of GM hybrid technology. However, Jin said there was no evidence showing the company and its staff members had any close contact with those who committed the theft.
A former General Motors (GM)'s engineer and her husband were charged in a Detroit court with conspiracy-formation, whose intention was to steal secrets relating to the company's hybrid technology and sell them to a Chinese car manufacturer July 22.
According to general manager of Chery New Energy Company, Chery Auto is a state-designated auto new energy technology R&D agency. The company started hybrid and all-electric car technology research in 2001 and has already acquired proven techniques in the field.
From 2007 to 2008, Beijing Automotive Works and Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation were involved in tech thefts of Hyundai Kia Ssangyong Motor of South Korea.
