On March 26, Chery Auto had its 2 millionth auto roll off the production line in Wuhu, and became the fifth passenger vehicle enterprise with output breaking the 2-million mark following Shanghai Volkswagen, FAW Volkswagen, Shanghai General Motors and Guangzhou Honda, as well as the first self-owned branded passenger vehicle enterprise with output breaking the 2-million mark.
From the first pile foundation being driven by Chery Engine Company in March 1997, Chery Sedan Factory breaking earth, the first, the 10,000th even the 1 millionth sedan rolling off the production line to currently the 2 millionth sedan rolling off the production line, it indicates that Chery Auto has stepped into a higher stage after entering the multi-brand development phase, and those independent-brand enterprises, which are represented by Chery, have realized new leap-forward in terms of product technology, quality, capacity, brand construction and so on after over decade independent innovation.
In recent years, Chery consummated its own product research and development system further. Based on the original research and development system, such new organs as research institutes and trail manufacture center have been set up.
In new base of integrated research and development center that has been initiated, Jin Yibo, Assistant General Manager with Chery Auto, told the reporter that such a new development base, which can contain 15,000 research and development staff, will combine the development orientation of technologies of Chery Auto and the world-class autos, integrate intelligent resources at home and abroad, and conduct original research and development on the core, energy-saving and foresight technologies of complete autos, engines, gearboxes and key parts and components.
The annual fund for research and development reaches nearly 10 percent of the sales volume.
At present, Chery has realized completely independent design on engines, automatic gearboxes and entire autos, had the ability to launch eight to ten auto types annually and taken the lead in researching and developing energy-saving and environmental-friendly products in the industry.
Through independent innovation, Chery developed actively and gradually mastered a batch of core technologies on core parts and components and entire auto development, especially in the terms of energy-saving and environmental-friendly key technologies, the investment is huge and the achievement is great.
