Jeremy Jurgens, Senior Director of Center for Global Growth Companies at the World Economic Forum

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of cooperation between China and the World Economic Forum(WEF, before opening of the Third Summer Davos Forum in China's northeastern city Dalian on September 10, People's Daily Online held an exclusive interview with Jeremy Jurgens, Senior Director of Center for Global Growth Companies at the World Economic Forum.

Mr. Jurgens expresses his appreciation for strong efforts the Chinese government made for consistent growth and thinks "Chinese is making a lot of positive contributions to the global economy and also domestically."

Mr. Jurgens says there's been an ongoing shift in economic power from the West to the East. This year's economic crisis highlights such changes and brings them to the forefront. WEF has been for long time trying to understand changes and set a platform where leaders can understand and help to share their ideas of what's taking place out there.

He also mentions the social reform, such as changes in China's welfare system, health care, insurance and pensions, and considers all these efforts Chinese government is making good for china's long-term competiveness.

Talking about Thomas L. Friedman's words that the winter Davos forum is a capitalist forum in the huge popular book "World is Flat", Mr. Jurgens says he would consider the forum "a multi-stakeholder platform". He says, of course the private business sector plays an important role. The forum provides a place for entrepreneurs and economic leaders to achieve their ideas. But the forum also brings in government leaders. Labor unions, social organizations, and academics are to attend the forum, so it is a platform for all society.
