A former senior manager at China Eastern Airlines is being held by police for allegedly embezzling over 100 million yuan ($14.75 million) from his previous employer, according to 21st Century Business Herald.

The newspaper quoted an unidentified source on Tuesday saying that Shi Guofeng, who used to work as the general manager of China Eastern's aviation operations control center in Shanghai, is currently under investigation by authorities.

Shanghai Anti-Corruption Bureau, the office in charge of corruption cases in the city, declined to answer questions regarding the case when the Global Times called Wednesday.

It is unclear as to when Shi was detained by police, but according Luo Zhuping, secretary for China Eastern's board of directors, he left the company sometime last year.

"I don't know any more details so I can't provide further details," Luo told the Global Times Wednesday.

The aviation operations control center officially opened in 2004, and plays a vital role in China Eastern's operations as it is in charge of all daily flights. The center also provides service to other charted planes and private jets.

Shi is said to have embezzled maintenance and service fees that third parties paid to China Eastern via the aviation operations control center that he ran.
