A retired man didn't realize he had dropped a bundle of cash on the roadside as he rode through a busy intersection on his motorbike on Thursday until good Samaritans alerted him and helped him recover all 100 notes worth some 10,000 yuan ($1,422.3).

Surveillance video of the intersection in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province shows the man, surnamed Lu, making a right turn on his scooter when the wad of bills flipped onto the road. A courier was the first to stop and prevent the bills from flying away. He was soon joined by numerous other passersby who stooped down to corral the cash within three minutes and return all the bills to Lu.

Lu told the media after the incident that at first he was flustered but then deeply moved by the people who helped him collect the money which was his and his wife's pension.

A bank security guard helped Lu to the nearest bank where they counted the bills to make sure none had been lost.

"It's better to be of good conscience than have the thrill of a windfall at someone else's expense," a Chinese netizen wrote.

"A thumb up to the warmed hearts of many people this winter," another comment said.
