In September, Huawei launched the HUAWEI Mate 30 Series at an exclusive launch event in Munich, Germany. The announcement included mentions of 5G variants, but many outside of those in a few markets noted the 5G devices' absence from their local retailers. This is slated to change in early 2020, as Huawei plans to release the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G and HUAWEI Mate 30 5G in more countries with a mature 5G infrastructure as early as Q1 2020.

One could argue that Huawei's top-of-the-line devices have some of the most powerful hardware the market has on offer. Embedded in the 5G variants of the HUAWEI Mate 30 Series devices is the Kirin 990 5G, which is manufactured with the 7nm+ EUV process and integrates a 5G modem supporting both SA and NSA networking modes.

The dual-mode support and modem integration of the SoC make the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G and HUAWEI Mate 30 5G the world's first second-generation 5G smartphones. To consumers, dual-mode support means they will be able to reap the benefits of 5G connectivity whether their carriers' networks are built on 4G core infrastructure or a native 5G core. Coupled with the wide range of supported 5G bands and Dual SIM compatibility, the 5G variants of the HUAWEI Mate 30 Series offer compelling choices for frequent travellers. The HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G also features an advanced antenna layout that includes 14 antennas dedicated to 5G connectivity, delivering ground-breaking speed and connection stability regardless of how it is being held.

It is also worth noting that the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G incorporates Huawei's pioneering Graphene Film Cooling Technology, which ensures fast cooling even when the device is put on high load. This is important to a 5G device, as 5G's higher connection speed, wider bandwidth and lower latency will no doubt give rise to novel applications that push devices to their limits. Without adequate cooling to keep the device at a reasonable temperature, performance would not matter.

Huawei has consistently delivered flagship products that come with pioneering camera hardware. With the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G, Huawei continues this tradition of excellence. The HUAWEI Mate 30 Series features the SuperSensing Cine Camera, a quad-camera system comprising dual-40MP main cameras, an 8MP telephoto camera and the 3D Depth Sensing Camera, encircled in an iconic Halo design.

The first of the main cameras is the SuperSensing Camera, which uses a RYYB colour filter array to achieve ultra-high light sensitivity of ISO 409600. The other half of the duo is the Cine Camera. Equipped with a large 1/1.54-inch sensor and an ultra-wide lens, it enables a range of video features, including ultra-slow-motion video capture and the recording of highly detailed ultra-wide 4K time-lapse videos in low light conditions. Third in the stack, the telephoto supports 3X optical zoom, 5X hybrid zoom and 30X digital zoom. And finally, the 3D Depth Sensing Camera measures time-of-flight to gauge distance and simulate highly realistic bokeh effects.

Launched in China and selected markets soon after the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro and HUAWEI Mate 30, the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G shares the same hardware as its LTE variant, but Huawei added software tweaks to take its camera performance even further. The result is a smartphone camera that is better than the best - the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G is the incumbent king of smartphone photography, leading the DXOMARK scoreboard with a historic high score of 123.

The revolutionary 5G SoC and the top-tier camera system in the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G are complemented by its striking industrial design and complete feature set. At the front, the Horizon Display provides an immersive viewing experience with a unique 88-degree curved glass. Underneath it, the 3D Depth Sensing Camera enables 3D Face Unlock, while an optical fingerprint scanner enables fingerprint unlock. Once they are set up, users may use either interchangeably, making the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G one of the few devices that supports dual-biometric authentication. Available in a total of six colourways, the top-class Huawei 5G flagship device includes two vegan leather models - Forest Green and Orange. They offer the same durability and texture that leather is traditionally prized for in a way that is more humane and eco-friendly.

Consumers who dread exhausting their smartphones' batteries will be elated to know that the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G comes packed with a high capacity 4500mAh battery. Power consumption is regulated by AI, ensuring maximum battery life. For charging, the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G supports some of the fastest wired and wireless charging speeds available on commercial smartphones. Out of the box, the TÜV Rheinland-certified HUAWEI Mate 30 Series supports 40W HUAWEI SuperCharge over a cable and 27W wireless charge.

The company has shipped 7 million units of HUAWEI Mate 30 Series devices globally in its first 60 days on the market, up 75 percent compared to the performance of last year's HUAWEI Mate 20 Series over the same duration. With the devices arriving in more markets next quarter, consumers don't have to wait long until they get to experience the next generation 5G smartphones for themselves.
