China’s race against time in R&D of novel coronavirus

Researchers from Shanghai-based Fosun Group developed a new nucleic acid test kit for the novel coronavirus, which can detect the infection from carriers who have no fever symptom, Fosun President Guo Guangchang announced on Feb 3. The company is applying for approval from the national drug authority.

China is likely to have a vaccine against novel coronavirus for public use within three months, which will include a month and a half of development and a month and half of the testing: Li Lanjuan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering

Experts said a vaccine against the 2019 novel coronavirus will be developed in a month's time at the earliest, as the Center for Disease Control of Zhejiang Province isolated a virus of high titers on Jan 24, which will help in the prevention and treatment of the virus.

BGI said it has started an urgent production of 200,000 sets of coronavirus reagents amid the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

China has approved four coronavirus diagnosis products, including BGI's RT-PCR technology-based coronavirus reagent and analysis software, to accelerate the detection of coronavirus cases.
