Editor's Notes:

China's two sessions of the year, the country's most important political event, opened on Thursday after a two-month delay due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Against the backdrop of epidemic prevention and control as a new normal, the two sessions will demonstrate to the world that China has achieved a decisive phased victory in the battle against COVID-19.

As a tradition, the two sessions will invite foreign ambassadors and diplomats in China as guests.

The Global Times interviewed ambassadors from six countries. They expressed their biggest interest and expectations toward this year's two sessions.

Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, Ambassador of Cuba to China

I will attend the two sessions. I think it is a good example of the progress that China has had in the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuba and China support each other in the fight against COVID-19. We understand the measures taken by the Chinese government to guarantee the good health condition of the attendees, including the diplomat participants, which is critical to the success of this important event.

The celebration of the two sessions in May confirms the political commitment of the Chinese authorities to preserve the safety and life of the people. The strategy to contain this pandemic has confirmed the human being as the center of the whole process.

The celebration of the two sessions will be successful in learning the results of the fight in the containment of COVID-19 and the projection of China to improve the mechanisms for managing emergency health situations, and the legal framework.

In this epidemiological situation, it is a decisive event to preserve the ability to articulate in a timely manner the functioning of the different political, economic and social sectors at all levels and in all regions. The recognition from the Chinese people as well as their confidence in the Communist Party of China leadership was evident.

The timing of the two sessions also signals the triumph of the nationwide fight against the coronavirus epidemic. The decisions taken during the two sessions will provide an essential legal, political and economic basis for achieving the proposed goals for China's development, the elimination of poverty and the fulfillment of achieving a moderately well-off society.

Besides, it is of great interest to know more details about China's progress in obtaining an effective vaccine, the development of science and technology, both civilian and military, based on the improvement of health care, the production of medicines, and biotech products. We have been following up on the leadership of the National Health Commission in this regard, so we await a report to the deputies of this state body.
