Beijing resumed flights to Hubei Province on Sunday, as the COVID-19 situation there stabilizes and Wuhan's testing capability grows.

Shenzhen Airlines flight ZH9151 took off early on Sunday morning from Beijing and flew to Xiangyang in Hubei, becoming the first passenger flight to fly to Hubei from Beijing since the outbreak of COVID-19.

Before take-off, the airplane went through strict disinfection and prevention control procedures. Passengers were asked to show their health codes or health certificates before boarding, media reported.

The Civil Aviation Administration said that the Shenzhen Airlines round-trip flight between Beijing and Xiangyang will become a weekly routine, departing every Sunday.

The Wuhan's Health Commission in Central China's Hubei Province said Saturday that they conducted nucleic acid tests on 1.47 million residents on Friday, bringing the total tested number to 5.43 million among the citywide testing drive.

Wuhan, a city with a permanent population of 11.12 million, launched a citywide nucleic testing drive for all residents on May 14. A total of 159 silent carriers and one confirmed case have been reported amid the large-scale testing drive so far.

Hubei reported zero confirmed COVID-19 cases and zero imported infections on Saturday. There are still seven patients under treatment, all in Wuhan.
