CPPCC holds closing meeting of annual session, receives 5,488 proposals from advisors

The closing meeting of the third session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Wednesday, after completing all the items on its agenda. 

Chinese President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the closing meeting in Beijing.

Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, delivered a speech at the closing meeting.

Wang noted that China's anti-epidemic battle has bolstered the country's confidence, national strength and the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Furthermore, the country will firmly reject formalism and bureaucracy. 

Wang stressed that the CPPCC will continue to contribute to the development of Chinese-style democracy, which is deeply rooted in the soil of Chinese society and plays a significant role in national governance. 

He said that the CPPCC will also improve its institutional effectiveness and build a political community that shares the same ideological and political foundation, common goals and fundamental interests.

A resolution on a work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, a report on the examination of proposals, and a political resolution on the annual session were approved at the closing meeting, Xinhua reported. 

In total, 5,488 proposals were submitted and 4,089 were accepted for deliberation, during the third session of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC. At the closing meeting, 2,043 CPPCC members were present.
