Tianjin bridge collapse leaves 7 dead, 5 hurt: officials

A bridge collapse taking place Sunday morning in North China's Tianjinleft  seven dead and five injured, the local authority announced as of 6 pm on Sunday, saying that rescue work at the site had basically finished. 

The collapse happened in Binhai district, as repairmen were maintaining a local railway bridge, the Ministry of Emergency Management said on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo. 

Some of the repairmen were buried after the collapse, after which the local authority sent 192 rescue workers and 10 rescue dogs to the site. The ministry also sent a working team to the site to guide the rescue work, according to the announcement. 

According to the Binhai authority, the accident happened when the repairmen were replacing one of the bridge ties. 

Personnel from the construction company involved were detained by local police, the Binhai authority said on Weibo.
