'Ant colonies' may undermine society's values

The slang phrase "ant colony" refers to low-income university graduates who live in groups and are emotionally weak. They share the attributes of the ants: small, vulnerable, and living in large groups.

It is reported that this new group accounts for over a million people in today's China. With the population of this group growing rapidly, people should pay close attention to the effect this group will have on society.

It is obvious that the "value" of a university education has dropped dramatically over the years. Some graduates will have no option but swallow their pride and take the job that they are over-qualified for.

In my opinion, the "ant colonies" may cause a few problems in society.

First, it may reduce people's willingness to invest in education. The original purpose of education is to help people maximize their potential and have a better life. But the "ant colonies" seems to be less convincing in terms of proving how it really works.

On the other hand, this group is highly mobile. Those graduates are finding it difficult to get a job and, because they are not settled, they tend to go to other places to find a job.

China is in a new phase of its transformation period. The current education system cannot meet the demand of all students and will bring a lot more disadvantages to the ordinary families.

Therefore, society should pay more attention to this group and do more to solve the problem.
