The number of .cn domain names has decreased by half since last year, according to registry data from the Industry and Information Techonolgy Ministry. In the past year, the overall number of domain names ending with .cn has dropped from 13.68 million to 6 million, according to Zhang Xiangdong, the CEO of www.net.cn, in the 2010 Internet Annual Meeting on November 20. Zhang said that a major reason for the reduction of .cn domain names was due to a strict management which crowded out the domain names registered for speculation. Based on the statistics from China Internet Network Information Center (CINIC) December 28, 2009, the number of .cn domain names rose to the peak volume, 13.68 million. Zhang said the accuracy rate of the present domain name info is over 90 percent.
