Man castrates himself
A man emasculated himself before jumping to his death from a Tsinghua University building Monday, the Beijing Times reported yesterday.
The man surnamed Zhu, 26, used a knife from a fruit vendor to cut his genitals at a campus fruit store at 11:40 am. After visiting a clinic, he ran away from the doctor, then jumped from the third floor of a nearby building. Zhu was not a student or faculty member.
Police are investigating the reason for his behavior.
Epileptic thief detained
A thief who pretended to be an epileptic as a ruse to escape arrest, was finally detained by Beijing railway police, the Beijing Evening News reported.
The thief, surnamed Han, foamed at the mouth after police arrested him at Tianjin Railway Station Saturday. Han said he tricked police many times in other cities but was never caught.
Traffic blocks romance
Beijing's streets and subways were packed yesterday evening with couples trying to go out for a romantic Valentine's Day.
Road traffic was particularly slow at 5 pm, one hour earlier than usual. Streets around Sanlitun were practically impassable, while subway riders uploaded photos of packed platforms onto the Internet.
