Danish badminton veteran Peter Gade said Tuesday that he would push his body and mind to the limits to get the best result possible at his last Olympic Games.

The 35-year-old Gade, men's singles world No. 5, will retire in the end of this year.

"I will enjoy being part of the Danish Olympic team one last time. I'm at the end of my career and I need every element to peak to get a medal," he said after his first training in Wembley Arena, the game venue of badminton.

Gade has participated in three Olympic Games, nine Thomas Cup and more than 10 world championships, however he never wins a gold medal at these three most prestigious badminton events.

"I will try one last time to push my body and mind to the limits. My dream is to get a medal, but a lot of things could happen," Gade said.

The London Games badminton competition witness a new format consisting of group stage and knock stage. Gade is drawn into a two-player group with world No. 59 Martins Pedro of Portugal, which means one win in the group will guarantee Gade into the top 16.

However Gade tried to keep a calm mind. "I will not underestimate any opponents, and I will try to get a good start. But after the group stage it will be tough. If I go to quarterfinals against China's Chen Long, it will be great for me," he said.

In the past three Olympic Games, interestingly, Gade always lost to the eventual winner.

At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, he lost to eventual gold medalist Ji Xinpeng of China in the semifinals. At the 2004 Athens Olympics, he was defeated by the eventual champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he lost to the Chinese champion Lin Dan in the quarterfinals.

"Well it's been great experience. It was a special moment to play Lin Dan at home in 2008. I played a great match but he was just so good. It's my best memory from the Games," Gade said.
