Liu Wei, the son of the former deputy head of Chaoyang district, stood trial Wednesday at Beijing No.1 Intermediate Court for receiving bribes and defrauding over 4.7 million yuan ($740,250), the Legal Mirror reported.
The office building Liu, 31, and his friend Zeng Nengcai rented was due to be demolished. They claimed their decoration costs were 18 million yuan, but it in fact was only 13.3 million.
Liu also received 410,000 yuan from his father, Liu Xiquan, who was given the cash as a bribe. He used it to buy a BMW. Liu senior was prosecuted for receiving bribes of 1.8 million yuan in July. No verdict was given in either case.
