Inspired by the immense popularity of the Chinese Characters Dictation Competition program on China Central Television, Renmin University will hold a similar contest on November 30, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Two hundred characters have been chosen for the exam; they will be read aloud to contestants, who will then write each word from memory.
Chen Jiabin, one of the student organizers of the contest, said he hopes the contest will prompt people to practice writing by hand and to read more. The contest, which is supported by the university, is expected to cost approximately 8,000 yuan ($1,315); the funds will come from the Student Union's activity fees.
