Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a 9-day full combat readiness checks in the Far East, military sources said Friday.
Several airborne assault units will reach the grounds of Anadyr city in Chukotka Autonomous Region, the island of Sakhalin and main islands of Kuril archipelago during the snap checks, which run from Sept. 11-19.
The Ulan-Ude and Ussuriysk units of Russia's Eastern Military District (EMD) will for the first time be redeployed via planes to reach locations more than 4,000 km away.
Interceptor aircraft Mikoyan MiG-31 and assault aircraft Sukhoi Su-24M and Su-24MR with transport aircraft Antonov An-12 are flying from the airfields of Russia's Central Military District to the EMD alternate airfields for further regrouping of troops with combat vehicles and military equipment.
In 24 hours, some 100 military planes and helicopters are redeployed over a distance of 400-4000 km.
A total of 100,000 troops of combined military groups of EMD and Air Force, Air Defense, Pacific Navy, and divisions of Long-range and Military transport aviation are taking part in the snap checks.
