The Legal Mirror reported that 10 new archaeological discoveries in China in 2014 have been revealed to the public. An iron mining and smelting relic site in Dazhuangke village, Yanqing township, which dates back to the Liao Dynasty (916-1125) made it to the list as the only archaeological project from Beijing in 25 years.
The relic site includes the mines where people used to live and melt iron. Ten complete smelting furnaces have been found in the relic site, more than any other mining relic site from Liao Dynasty that has been found.
The relic site could show researchers how the smelting furnace has evolved over time. The local government plans to build a park in the relic site for tourists.
